Walker began his high school education at Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward, California. After an impressive freshman year, he transferred to Hillcrest Prep Academy in Phoenix, Arizona, to focus more intensively on basketball. On October 25, 2019, Walker left Hillcrest Prep to prepare for his next steps—whether collegiate or professional basketball. He graduated from high school in December 2019 but chose not to participate in high school basketball while weighing his options for the future. Despite receiving offers from several colleges, Walker declined them to focus on preparing for the NBA.

Basketball Career

Kyree’s basketball journey gained traction in eighth grade when his highlight videos featuring powerful slam dunks started gaining attention. At Moreau Catholic High School, he averaged 21.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. His remarkable performance earned him the title of MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year and led his team to the runner-up spot in the California Interscholastic Federation Division II Championship.

On June 30, 2017, Walker committed to Arizona State University over several other NCAA Division I programs, maintaining his status as a top-tier recruit. At that time, he was considered one of the top five players in the 2020 recruiting class. However, he decommitted from Arizona State on October 21, 2018. Later, on April 20, 2020, Walker announced that he would forgo college basketball entirely. Instead, he joined Chameleon BX, a specialized training program designed to prepare athletes for the NBA.

Kyree’s personal life has been marked by significant challenges. In 2018, his mother, Barrissa Gardner, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully, with the support of her family and access to excellent medical care, she began her recovery journey. That same year, Kyree faced another setback when his grandfather passed away, leaving him emotionally shaken.
