Cameron Arthur Mathison was born on August 25, 1969, in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, to Bill and Loretta Mathison. He has an older brother named Scott. As a child, Cameron was diagnosed with Legg-Calvé-Perthes syndrome, a condition that required him to wear leg braces until the age of six. Despite the challenges posed by this condition, which significantly impacted his hips, Cameron overcame these hurdles and never allowed his acting ambitions to be deterred.

Mathison attended Thornlea Secondary School in Thornhill, Ontario. Following high school, he pursued a degree in civil engineering at McGill University in Montreal, graduating in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree.

After completing his education, Cameron began his career as a model and appeared in commercials across Canada, the United States, and Europe. While working as a model, he took acting classes and started auditioning for roles in Toronto. He made his acting debut with the film 54 and later starred in the Canadian movie Washed Up.
