Philip Murphy goes by the name “Murphy” is a young American singer who gained fame after participating in season 19 of the American singing reality show American Idol where he auditioned by singing “Just the Two of Us” by Bill Withers which was loved by all the judges and the audience and won a golden ticket to Hollywood.

Philip Murphy was born as Philip Murphy Wiggin on December 16, 1992, in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States of America. He has not mentioned the name of his parents but once said that his dad was a big fan of Lionel Ritchie and also it was his dad who introduced him to Philip. Philip was listed in the “Indie- Folk” category where he sang “I Got a Name” which is originally a Jim Croce song, and then he dueted with Lizzy O’Very and sang “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac.  In the show stopper round, Murphy sang “Am I Still Mine?” and while whittling the first group of 64 competitors to 24, he was then eliminated from the show which made the judges, as well as the audience, disappointed.

In the recent episode of the American Idol, Philip Murphy was seen appearing in the show as a Wild Card Contestant as the reason for his elimination was stated as not right for the series while another competitor who had the same indie music nearly won the competition. Ever since his audition, Murphy won the hearts of viewers and literally became a fan favorite to win the show as well. Although all three judges seemed not at all impressed thus they didn’t select him for further rounds.

He received immense support and love from the people and even stated that they were watching the show for talented musicians and Murphy was a gem and he deserved to get selected. Therefore, contradicting the whole decision-making and to be fair, Philip Murphy was brought back to the show.
