Simons attended Edgewater High School in Orlando, Florida, and later transferred to Montverde Academy for his junior year. He returned to Edgewater for his senior year, deciding to forgo college basketball for a year to improve his draft stock. He graduated from Edgewater in 2017 and went on to attend IMG Academy in Bradenton for a post-graduation year in 2018.
Simons’ basketball career began gaining attention during his high school years at Edgewater. In 2017, he played for the United States men’s national under-19 team before bypassing college and entering the 2018 NBA Draft. He was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers and officially signed with them on July 2, 2018. On January 21, 2019, Simons was assigned to the Agua Caliente Clippers for the NBA G League.
